This year I entered the Iris Awards using my student work from my Diploma in Photography in 2024 gained at the Southern Institute of Technology.

I was thrilled to receive a Silver Medal for Orchid which is part of the Botanic Vista Series. It caused a good conversation with the judges and they spent a bit of time discussing the image.

My main aim for this series is for people to stop and look deeply into the images. That they are not as they seem, could it be a landscape, a flower or something else. This is what the judges discussed and it was brilliant to see them debate the origins of the image and my use of blurred focal point.

Rose and Peony Bouquet a Bronze Medal which is from my Floral Fusion series made up of composite images. The series is inspired by Dutch Masters Painters combined with modern photography using light painting.

These ethereal images remind us that there is always light in the dark.
I would like to thank my tutors from Southern Institute of Technology for all of their support during my studies.
Emma
